Even After a Correction, Bitcoin is Still Bigger than

Many people have been worried about the most recent 'crash', which many financial experts (which I am not one of) have said is just a correction from the recent hype. But how far did it go down and how high was it to begin with?

This post from iWeblists.com shows the top 50 companies in the United States, organized by market cap of their stocks. At the time of writing this (late February, 2018), Bitcoin had a peak market cap of just over 330 Billion USD and is currently hanging just under 200 Billion USD. Today's marketcap is brought to you from Coinmarketcap.com's fancy widget.

Numbers this large are hard to really fathom, so let's do some fun comparisons!
If you total all the money that's been put into Bitcoin (market capitalization), it's currently bigger than these companies:

  • Coca Cola
  • Mastercard
  • Comcast
  • Disney
  • PepsiCo
  • Merck
  • Nvidia
  • IBM
  • McDonalds
  • Netflix
  • Nike
And it's comping up close on Citigroup and Verizon (ie: the people who bought politicians for this Net Neutrality bit).
At it's peak in mid-December, 2017, Bitcoin had more money in it than:
  • Bank of America
  • Exxon Mobil
  • Wal-Mart
  • Wells Fargo
  • Visa
  • AT&T
  • United Health
  • Cisco
  • Home Depot
  • Pfizer
  • Intel
  • Chevron
  • Boeing
  • Oracle
  • Procter & Gamble
  • Disney and McDonalds combined with more than 16.5 Oprahs left to spare.

Cryptocurrency as a whole hit a peak of 825 Billion USD in mid-January 2018, which means that 2018 began to see more people putting money into cryptocurrency than every other US company to exist except for Apple Inc (872 Billion at time of writing). This includes having a larger market cap than:

  • Alphabet Inc. (Google)
  • Microsoft
  • Amazon
  • Facebook
  • JP Morgan Chase
  • Johnson & Johnson
  • Bank of America
  • Wells Fargo, Visa, and Mastercard combined
  • Coca-Cola, Pepsi, McDonalds, and Disney combined with two Bill Gates net worth and 6 Billion USD left to spare.

Aside from math just being fun to mess around with, the goal of this is to really realize how big crypto currency and Bitcoin have gotten. Many people have FUD about this entire thing coming crashing to the floor, yet fail to see the sheer magnitude that this has grown into. Hope you enjoyed and send this to a crypto non-believer!
