How to get Bitcoin and Altcoins No-Fee, Fee-Free

Today I'm going to show you what a friend taught me about how to use some easy tools to buy Bitcoin and some altcoins WITH NO FEES! You're probably already using most of these tools anyways!

At this point, you should at least be familiar with wallets, addresses, and exchanges. If not, Check out my blog post on Crypto Vocab Basics to get familiar.
Until then, you begin the process with Coinbase, the most popular Bitcoin exchange. If you're not already on Coinbase, they have a free Bitcoin incentive if you use this link! This is just a referral link that will support us both with $10 in bonus Bitcoin when you spend your first $100 (instant 10% return), and to let me know that you appreciate learning the fee-free way of doing things!
Probably a good time for a note: ALWAYS check the URL when you click on a link and make sure that you are securely connected with "https://" in the address bar. Get some practice making sure everything is accurate! For more security tips, here's my post on good security habits. Now, on to the fee-free way of doing things..

When you're all set up on Coinbase, do not buy or sell anything straight to a wallet there due to fees. It's "fast and easy" but not cheap! Instead you want to go to "Accounts" then your USD wallet (or EUR for Euros, GBP for Pounds) as shown below.

Connect your bank account or debit card and transfer whatever amount of USD you want to invest there. If you're a new user and have recently verified your account, this should take about 10 days (which is, kind of ironically, one of the big problems crypto is solving), otherwise it usually takes 7 days and arrives morning/midday on the 7th day.

Most people will be inclined to jump straight into buying on Coinbase from the wallet, do not do this again because of fees. Coinbase is just an intermediary. Next you want to go to gdax.com. Don't forget to practice checking links! Make it a habit, always. From GDAX on the left-hand side towards the top, it will show your balances in whatever cryptos/currencies you are using, shown below. Click on "deposit" from there and deposit from your Coinbase USD wallet (and similarly "withdrawal" for later). Since GDAX is the exchange owned by Coinbase, these transfers are free and instant!

You may now again be inclined to do a "market buy" (and later market sell) to exchange USD for Bitcoin or other coins. This fee is about 1/4 the fee of Coinbase itself, but it's still not free yet! What you do next is find on the left-hand side again, the "limit" section where you can "limit buy" and "limit sell" - these are FREE, these are the droids you have been looking for! (Read below for all the easy ways GDAX allows you to set prices)

If you are interested in trading, you'll really want to know more about how these work! But for now, you can just place a limit buy in - this will buy the coin you've selected when the price 'drops' to the price you put in. GDAX gives you a lot of useful tools to do this with which are outlined in red. Clicking in different spots that are outlined will set in prices, amounts, or different views to help you get the price you want in! Go ahead and experiment with what these do to save you a lot of time down the road. (You may notice red boxes over a blacked-out area. These are your GDAX balances, mine are blacked out for privacy, but you can click on those numbers to auto-fill the entire amount)
For buying in soon for free, you can select a price just 1 cent below the current price. Thus, when natural fluctuations happen, your coin will be bought with NO FEE! Occasionally, you will be at a spot where the price will go up and up and up before your order fills. If this has happened consistently for a few minutes, just cancel the limit buy and move your buy price right up to 1 cent below the current price again, easy as that!
It should also be noted that you are buying when the price is dropping, and the price might continue to drop for minutes, hours, or even the day. Do not freak out, that's what prices do. Zoom out on the same graph to see the price fluctuating, just like stocks and every coin out there do.
Then for selling your coin, you do the same thing vise versa! Sell it back into your fiat currency with a limit sell on GDAX, then click "withdraw" on GDAX, withdraw to the USD wallet, and then back on Coinbase, go to "accounts" and send the money back to your bank! Easy as cake once you do it once or twice!

GDAX also has an option to send directly to another address from here. You can use this to send currency to other wallets or other exchanges to trade smaller altcoins. I have sent Ethereum to other exchanges to then buy other coins with or trade for Bitcoin to buy coins with. Somehow, GDAX covered all the transaction fees for this! So when it gets to another exchange this way, you're still fee-free!

Keep in mind that some exchanges have a "minimum deposit balance" that can snag your time, so look into each exchange before using it! If you pick Binance as your exchange, Here is my affiliate link that gives you bonuses on signing up!

Thanks for reading! I hope this helps a lot of you figure out ways to buy/sell/move everything around with as few fees as possible! Again, if you haven't signed up for Coinbase yet, get $10 in free Bitcoin when you use this link! If this has saved you some hard-earned cash and you're inclined to donate, the addresses are below.
